About Colleen Brown
I'm a storyteller at heart.
The Short Of It:

Hey, I'm Coco! I'm a little dinosaur-raising mom, living in the relative seclusion of the mountains and old farmlands with her boy-version
mini-me and husband. Oh yeah, and two cats! I write. I read. I bake. I live in my own fairytale.
Early Years:

As a young girl and a middle child, creating stories kind of became an escape for me. My brothers needed more attention than me, though if you ask them I'm certain they'll just say I was anti-social. I can't say they're wrong. While my older brother went through phases of self-discovery (following in the footsteps of Bam Margera was one of the best *insert eye roll here*), my younger brother had a tough time dealing with, well, the world. That left me to my own devices and, while I could have gotten myself into more trouble (I don't think at the time my parents would have noticed unless I set a car on fire - bless their hearts), I took to reading and writing. Eventually, I even tried color guard and a short stent at drama club, but I never want to revisit that. Don't ask. I was mainly that orchestra dork, who'd rather go read Manga with her friends at the local mall.

Right around 7th grade, my parents split and found their better halves. A few years afterward, my mom and stepdad decided we were Florida bound. It was right after 9th grade when I was about to turn fifteen. I'm sorry, but do you know how hard it is to make friends in a new state and a new school at fifteen? Suffice it to say, after a few short months and lots of bullying later, I switched to being homeschooled, well virtual schooled. I loved it. Truly, there were opportunities there that standard schooling just couldn't offer. My entire senior year was free college because of it. Score!

Later Years:

I remained at the local college to get my A. A and met my now husband. Would you believe he also moved to Florida the same year, a month before me, from the same part of the Northeast? Same state, only an hour away from each other! Stalker... At the time when we met, I was gearing up to study abroad in Italy and I will forever taunt him about not going (and then later on about not going to Greece with me when I went to study abroad a second time). Either way, the lovely man waited patiently for my return when we were able to meet in person for the first time.

Six years, an apartment together, and two very queen-bee cats later, he proposed. A cloudy day on the beach with a mermaid in the distance getting some very odd photos taken. Pure magic I tell you. Within a year or two, I was off to Holland and working my way as a tour guide for a long-time friend, professor, and all-over trailblazer. Seriously, if you know her, then you understand. Right before getting married, I received my M.Ed and, to this day, have not used it outside of being a Youth Services Librarian.

More Current:

A few years ago, my husband and I moved back up north only to discover I was pregnant with our son. Surprise! My mini-me was everything I expected and more. All boy and even more attitude. More recently, we purchased our first home, nestled between two mountains and amidst farmland. Our projects include lots of updating and repairs, beginning with all the sponge painting (every room, closet, and even the oil tanks for the boiler... yikes!).
Writing has never been optional for me. It’s something integral to my very existence.

This journey hasn't been easy. It's actually been quite difficult. There are a lot of aspects of being a writer that no one really considers or talks about. The constant worrying about whether or not others like my writing. The questioning of whether or not I am getting my ideas across and immersing readers, if the pacing is too fast or too slow, if the tense is right, is there enough for my characters to lose... and then, the dreaded imposter syndrome. No one tells you how much worry, stress, and anxiety is involved, but despite it we keep pushing forward. It's worth it.

Currently, my day job is working remotely for an impulse supply company and filling in at the local library. (Fun fact: I worked as a Youth Services Librarian for over 13yrs!) In between jobs that come through, I'm chasing after my very active two-year-old boy who I am pretty certain is destined for the stage in comedy.
On the weekends, I snuggle up with my hubby after putting the munchkin to bed and either play a video game or watch a movie or tv show. Have any suggestions?
I love to bake and cook, take hikes, and attempt to read my growing TBR pile. I'm crafty, love Pinterest, and binge-watch
Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter (Go Hufflepuffs!) every single year, and I mean on repeat. Like for a straight week.
I literally know every line. You can ask my husband who is rolling his eyes right now.
