Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice!

I'm incredibly excited for fall. This year more than any other.

First reason: My hubs and I purchased our first home back in February that sits nestled in a valley between two beautiful mountains and TONS of farmland. It's a dream, you could say. I'm thrilled to have the chance to completely deck it out for my son.
Second reason: Simply put, I just love fall. Pumpkin spice is everything nice! It's this time of the year that I really get into baking again. Pumpkin doughnuts, spice cakes, s'mores cupcakes, pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin chorizo pasta, anything and everything that I can make with pumpkin pie spice happens.

A third reason I'm super excited is all the festivals happening. Right near us is a large 17-acre apple orchard that we love to go to every year. Besides apples, there are hard ciders, cider doughnuts, potato cannons, pumpkin patches, a corn maze, and hayrides. Basically, anything you can imagine for a fall festival is there.

I'm proud to say that we made our first scarecrow as a family! It was some work too. Who knew making a scarecrow was so time-intensive? Joking, joking. I'm not even a little surprised that my 1-yr old son wasn't scared of it. Given who his parents are and how we live and breathe spooky season basically all year long. I did not, however, expect him to laugh and give it a hug. He also really enjoys visiting him every day and helping Dad set him back upright. At one point, I had fastened giant googly-eyes on him, but apparently, they just weren't for him (kept falling off no matter what I used). That sunflower behind him to the left is a Russian Giant and, no lie, the flower was bigger than my head. It was about 9-ft tall, give or take a little.

We've also enjoyed watching the tractors as they do some harvesting. So far it's only been the many potato plants they've done. I believe my neighbor told me it was several tons of potatoes. Next will be soy beans and all the many cornfields.
We've also done some pear and peach picking from our own grove, and have gotten dozens of ears of corn from our neighbor, who owns several hundred acres of the farmland encircling us. They've also been kind enough to give us Concord and Niagara grapes, yellow cherries, giant zucchini, mint, lettuce, spinach, Rambo apples, and black raspberries (I didn't know this was a real thing. I was certain it was made up like blue raspberry. Oops!).

What's happening in your corner of the world?
