Diana has spent many years searching Ashdown Manor, home to the illustrious Ashdown family (at least those who remain), for the source of the evil that has haunted her for her entire life. Now, the entity that hunts the Ashdowns has latched onto her oldest daughter, Almira, and Diana must race to discover the darkness's identity to give Almira the tools she will need in the future—if she is going to defeat the evil her mother could not.
But the demonic entity has seen Almira and senses the power within her. A power Diana herself bound out of fear of what may prey on Almira, a power great enough to swallow the city whole if it doesn't consume Almira's soul first.
Diana knows her fate, but she will see this darkness brought to light before her end.
